Planting Raspberries | December 2011

The week of Christmas, our family decided to plant the Raspberry fields. We had 2 acres to plant 7,500 raspberry plants. Dad had some research and found out that one full grown man could plant 900 plants in a full work day. So he finished the math and calculated we could plant all 7,500 plants in 2-3 days; just with our family of 7 if everyone worked. Well, after the first day (Wednesday), all 7 of us together planted 656 plants. Definitely did not be our quota! That night we had a mini panic attack and figured we would never be done by Christmas! We decided to get some help from our friends . . . so we called a couple people and figured if all 9 of us worked a full day we could be closer to our goal. By noon on Thursday, Dad realized we just need some serious workers who would do nothing but work, so he went to the corner of Fulton Road and hired 2 men to help plant. Best decision we ever made. Those two men were such fast and efficient workers! Friday, Dad hired 4 more workers! They basically finished the first field by the end of the day. Then on Saturday, Christmas Eve, Dad had the workers doing irrigation on the first field while our family and the Robert family (who graciously volunteered their help!) planted the second field. So yes, we finished planting 7,500 plants in 4 days. Thank you to all our dear friends who volunteered their help! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Also, we have some great news, our website launched on Thursday! We are now taking orders for Raspberries! You can view ordering instructions, packages, and much more at our website. We would also great appreciate it if you could help us get the word out! Send out website to your friends and let them know they can order now! Check it out at www.rusrivras.com

Have a Happy and Safe New Year!
